2002 RECIPIENT:
RAMON ARTEAGA - OWNER OF LA FLOR DE JALISCO ENTERPRISES

Ramon Arteaga moved to Gainesville, Georgia, in 1991 to open a small family-run grocery store La Flor de Jalisco. Since that time his family has been blessed with a loyal clientele and a successful, growing business including a bakery, butcher shop, restaurant and two grocery stores offering a broad range of products and services. Through the years the Arteagas have never lost touch with their roots or their community, providing support for the annual Marcha por la Paz, donating groceries for non-profit community groups and making their space, parking lot and other resources at the disposal of the community free of cost for important civic events such as the 2000 Hispanic Census Participation Campaign, an outdoor mariachi concert in celebration of el Día de las Madres (Mothers' Day) and much more.

In addition, Ramon Arteaga is an active member of the Rotary Club of Hall County, a volunteer civic organization of business and professional leaders providing humanitarian service and building goodwill and peace in the world. In 1999 Ramon and other Rotary Club members made the commitment to organize an International Project for the local club. They raised money to build a computer lab for students with fifteen computers and workstations in the town of Atolinga, State of Zacatecas, Mexico. The project was a great success and has encouraged cultural understanding and sparked wonderful, close new friendships beyond the limits and the reach of our border.
